Engl: 112 Final Post
The internet tools that I learned with this class were ones I have never used before. the AND or OR was completly new to me. The blog helped me also stay organized with posting my propoasl and outline for my literacy paper, even though my paper didn't follow it at all. The del.icio.us bookmarks, saved me, I am horrible at writing things down, and this account let me bookmark the page and also leave notes to myself for each link. The class wiki was nice, because you could look at what other people had wrote and what they thought about certain internet tools. Overall, I learned to use internet tools that I will continue to use, even with doing a simple search!

Engl: 112 Literacy Proposal
Most authors write books pertaining to a certain age group, Judy Blume has written many books, for a variety of ages, picture books, chapter books, and adult books. What were her reasons for writing books for numerous age groups? Some of Judy Blume’s characters were based about her family members. Her books she felt she could relate to when she was the age that the book targets. As well as tragic events that occurred in her life that helped influence her to write her books. I am familiar with Judy Blume’s books because I read them growing up, usually more than once. By using the Judy Blume website, I am able to learn more about Judy Blume, her books, and her reasons of writing her books. I also am going to use a teacher website that has a biography, criticism, and lesson plans, about Judy Blume’s books. This is to help show how many people have been touched by Judy Blume, and their various ages. For this paper I anticipate researching it for another week, then writing a rough draft.

Engl. 112 Proposal
For my literary paper I will be writing about Judy Blume. I will be focusing on why Judy Blume choose to write her books for such a wide variety of age groups steming from picture books to adult books and everything in between. This far in my research I am only familar with the books that she has written, due to reading them in the past. I plan to collect information by researching Judy Blume's website and her reasions as to why she wrote her books and what influenced her. As well as trying to find teachers that possibly use her books in their classroom and why. I choose this topic of writing about Judy Blume because I grew up reading all of her books usually more then once, and I feel it would be interesting to find out more about her and why she choose to write books not focusing on just one age group but many.
Engl. 112 Progress on Literacy Paper
As of right now I have not made too much progress on my paper, as I have been sick now for 2 1/2 weeks and have been falling behind everything with school and trying to study for tests and finish my research paper. Needless to say I have been good all semester about not being over-whelmed, but I am now. I have been thinking about my literacy paper, trying to figure out if I can do anything with the author Judy Blume, I know that she has written books that I read in grade school, and then books that I read in middle school. She was my favorite, but I'm still trying to figure out if I can incorporate that into a paper. I thought about seeing if her books were aimed for the age categories that they fall, and if some were made to help the realization of a girls changing body. At this point I'm not for sure if I can. I plan on printing off the requirements and letting a friend of mine who sub. teaches look at it and see if she had any ideas. :)

Engl. 112 Field Research
For my field research I interviewed someone who is in criminal justice and her job is with kids that are in a detention center. I didn't really learn more then what I had mostly all ready concluded on my own. Ways that children are raised does play a role in the way that they lead their lives. According to my interviewier she felt that there is a direct role in the child develpment and teenage crime. I asked if bonding was important in child development, and she did agree that it was. I asked if child development could lead to psycholgical problems in their future in her opinion, she also agreed that abuse and neglect could lead to possible disorders. My interview was on a short time frame, so I wasn't able to ask all of my questions but, I was happy to have supporting answers to my paper.

I have completed my interview, only with someone different because I could never make contact with the other person, but its still not too late. My interview now, is directed towards someone who works with children that have criminal pasts. My questions mostly were regarding the way that they children were raised and if she felt there was a link between their raising and their crimes.

Right now I am in the process of finishing my interview. I have my interview questions that I have been asking, only have been playing e-mail tag. The info that I have gotten so far regarding my topic is good, it more on an emotinal feeling of how this person felt, and the emotions that they went through when dealing with a serial killer, and being in the pathway of them. I hope to have the interview completed this week. :)

After randomly typing in the same keywords only at different sites, my now favorite is ask.com, because my search brought up more relivant information. I used to always only searh at Msn.com. Another site that I found that I liked from our internet research project was the internet public library which is a web directories. Even though my search only brought up 7 sites, they were all filled with great info. Therefore I will be searching more web directories from now on for my paper.

Engl. 112 Dr. Michael Stone
I have been watching a recording a show on the I.D. Discovery channel since this class started called "Most Evil" featuring Dr. Michael Stone who classifies serial killers and their crimes comitted into a number catagory between 1 and 22. Each show Dr. Stone goes over a theme or subject such as cult leaders, or female serial killers. I figured I would go out on a limb while I had a little time this past week and search Dr. Michael Stone himself. I came up with 23,800,000 results, most not regarding the person I wanted. I then searched Dr. Michael Stone AND Evil. This resulted in 2,600,000 results. None really mattering again, but it did bring up the website of the show "Most Evil" which I viewed and can use as a referance regarding if needed for motives. I then randomly clicked on a discussion about how to contact Dr. Stone, which lead me to find a website about the depravity rating which is what Dr. Stone uses in his show to classify each person. The Depravity rating would be used in courts to help determine punishment for serial killers. All in all I feel the relevance of this search is a 4 out of 5.

Today I searched schizophrenia on google.com. My keyword was just schizophrenia. This search had over 10 million hits, therefore I'm definitly going to have to narrow my search down with this topic. The relevance of this search was probably a 2.5, not good, not bad. I hope to use schizohrenia in my paper by detailing people who have had this illness and killed because of what they thought was reality.

From the Find Articles link I searched, Why serial killers kill? I found an article that refered me to a book called The Murder Next Door: Why The Mind Is Designed To Kill, by David M. Buss, Penguin Press HC, 2005.
I found this article from Science News,
Titled: The Murder Next Door: Why The Mind Is Designed To Kill
Date: June, 11, 2005
As for other articles I haven't had much luck, I'm not for sure if I'm searching them wrong through the EBSCO host, but I'm not getting anything really relivant to my topic.

These are just a few to start, I don't have any more info on the books themselves because I researched the books off of prospector and chose to have them e-mailed to me, and the list wasn't as detailed as I had hoped.

Responses that I recieved from others varied from how I shouldn't want to write about serial killers to what kind of serial killers I plan to write about. Famous or not, male or female. As I decided before I plan to write not about a certian serial killer, but numerous ones, not specifically famous or not famous, male or female. I will write about the ones that most fit my report and have been most likely previously been studied to help determine their motivation of their killings.

Engl. 112 Exploration
When researching serial killers in general, I came across a website, regarding a possible connection between a serial killer and if they had been adopted. With this information it can help be answer my main point of why serial killers kill. Could it be the connection of how they grew up being adopted and not knowing their biological parents? This was one possible thought that I had not thought of for my research paper.

English 112 Identify Subject
The topic that I will be writting about for my research paper is regarding serial killers and if their is a reason that makes them kill. I choose this topic because it has always held my interest becacuse of the psycholgical aspect of the reason of "why." Is it a mental thing that causes them to kill or is it something when they were little that raised them to kill? I feel that writting about this subject will hold my interest as well answer my questions.
Information that I all ready know about serial killers is limited. I have watched a few shows about serial killers and their theory of what makes a serial killer tick. I have also read a few books, not about serial killers in general but about a certian killer, or cult leader. I have also written a report about serial killers, just in general, not partaining to anything in particular.
What I want to learn from this subject is the reason of normal people turning into killers, and not just killing once, but numerous times. Is their a relation between an obession they have to take someones life, or the rush that they feel, that causes them to kill over and over again. Also, do some killers kill purposly and leave hints or clues behind to lead the investagtors on. An example of this is the Zodiac killer, who always left a clue, such as killing, then calling the police to lead them there. As well as sending messages to the newspapers.

Elderly abuse in nursing homes
Mistakes health care providers make that kill patients, but are unknown to the families
Why do serial killers kill
Obesity and children
