Engl. 112 Schizophrenia Research

Today I searched schizophrenia on google.com. My keyword was just schizophrenia. This search had over 10 million hits, therefore I'm definitly going to have to narrow my search down with this topic. The relevance of this search was probably a 2.5, not good, not bad. I hope to use schizohrenia in my paper by detailing people who have had this illness and killed because of what they thought was reality.

Hi Randi

It is amazing how many people are affected by schizophrenia. It must be a horrible thing to loose touch with reality, to think something is as real as anything else and then find out your wrong. I know a little about this disease but look forward to hearing more detailed, specific information as to its causes and treatment success.
Best of luck

Randi - your topic is timely and interesting! You need only watch one of the prison documentaries on t.v. to know that alot of inmates suffer from mental illness. So, I would be interested to know if there is empirical (or any type!?)evidence about the percentage of killers who have been diagnosed, etc. Something else that may be interesting is what happens to them once they are incarcerated (assuming they don't get death penalty). Do they receive good treatment? Although not a serial killer, John Hinckley comes to mind; his case was in the news alot recently back East. He was housed at St. Elizabeth's (psych hospital) in D.C. and his family wanted him to have unsupervised, weekend visits to their home in Richmond. The legal wrangling was pretty interesting, as well as the different view points on mental illness and rehabilitation. Anyway, you picked a good topic.

Good luck!
